In John Gardberg’s footsteps
Exhibition in the Fenix Hall
Karis-Billnäs Upper Secondary School & Local Archive Arrest
“In the footsteps of John Gardberg” is a collaboration between Karis-Billnäs Gymnasium, the Local Archive Arresten and the City of Raseborg’s cultural services, with a focus on John Gardberg’s (1899–1974) documentation of Karis’ building culture. Gardberg, who was a headmaster, hobby photographer, folklore researcher and local historian, carefully documented the building condition of the region during the 1920s to 1960s.
Gardberg’s contribution and the collections he contributed to at the Society of Swedish Literature (SLS) now have a special status: they are included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Register.
The exhibition also includes more recent documentation from other local agents and, most recently, students, who will continue to preserve the living cultural heritage in 2026.
The Fenix Hall (Dalgatan 4, Kulturhuset Fokus) is open Mon & Thu 11-19; Tue, Wed & Fri 10-17. Sat 10-14. Closed on Sundays.
