Short description:

St. Catherine’s Church (SWE: Sankta Katarina Kyrka, FIN: Pyhän Katariinan kirkko) is a medieval grey-stone church consecrated on Midsummer Day in 1470. The church is a three-aisled hall church and is one of the region’s most important historical sights. The sacristy dates back to the 14th century. The church hall can accommodate approximately 400 people. The church houses a triumphal crucifix from 1450, several medieval wooden sculptures, and coats of arms. The church textiles from 1976 were created by the textile artist Barbro Gardberg from Karis. Next to the church stands a bell tower completed in 1768. It contains two bells from the church’s earliest years, one of which bears the year 1477.

Johan Lönnberg, who wrote the most recent book about Karis Church, will guide the tour in Swedish.
